This blog post contains the first of my Multi-modal Assignments for my Masters of Therapeutic Studies Course at The MIECAT Institute, written in July 2024.

Unit 1; Experiencing and Relational Presence : Multi-modal Assignment 2 "What you have come to know about Experiencing and Relational Presence, how you have come to know this, and what you would like to do with what you have come to know."
“Eckhartsberg suggests that: "Human meaning making rests in story. Life making calls for accounts, for story, for sharing. To be human is to be entangled in stories" (1981: 90).” -Thorburn and Hibbard (2008, p152)
I have always believed that art helps us to become fuller and more aware humans through the sharing of story. My personal artwork is generally loaded with symbolism as an expression of my inner narratives. Events I have produced and curated in community arts deliberately highlight sharing the stories of artists and non-artists alike. Coming into this course felt a little like I was jumping blindly off a cliff, but imagine my joy when I realized MIECAT shares my passion for the sharing of lived and living experience through arts in this same way.
Under the gentle guidance of Cilla and the other students, I waded through seas of new information, learning processes and languages in a dizzying whirlwind. I gathered notes and creative responses in a blank hand-bound book I had made before the course started as I went to record the story of my own experience. (LINK to journal) This then served as a massive access point for my Assignment response.
