Did you know it's only a -little bit- scary emailing your local Members of Parliament and the Prime Minister?
I've done it a few times, and for me there's always this twinge of fear for standing up for myself and others. But its nothing compared to what the people in Palestine are feeling right now. And I keep reminding myself, "This is supposed to be a democracy. These people have been elected to represent our best interests. They work for us. They work for me. I want this rampant death to stop."
I wrote to the Government again this afternoon. I adapted a template I found online, and updated some of the statistics. Then I sent this letter to my local Liberal and Labor MP's, the Attorney General, Penny Wong, and Albo's Office.
Here's what I wrote;
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Dear Ministers of South Australia,
Once again, I am writing to you as Israel’s annihilation of Gaza continues.
Israel's military says it has warned medical officials and international organisations to prepare for the planned evacuation of Gaza City's one million residents ahead of an offensive to occupy it. This is a direct statement of intent of harm against civilians. Not terrorists, civilians.
The last densely crowded homes are being bombed, displaced people are being burnt alive in tents, massacres continue at so-called “aid” sites, and 2 million people are still being starved to death. At least 62,004 people, including many children, have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 2023.
Since May 27th, Israel has killed at least 413 people and injured over 3,000 at their “aid” sites in Gaza, as Palestinians line up for food. In most documented attacks, Israeli forces have opened fire using tank shells, machine guns and drones.
Doctors at Nasser Hospital say many of the wounded are “shredded to pieces” — too mutilated to identify.
In Al-Mawasi, Israel continues targeting the tents of displaced families – burning entire families alive. The tent massacre that briefly horrified the world in June is now near-daily. Normalised. Ignored. With almost zero media coverage.
94% of hospitals in Gaza have been damaged, bombed, or flattened. They have been raided, doctors and nurses executed, patients buried alive, a ward of sick babies left to starve to death, and their bodies left to rot after Israeli forces forced staff to abandon them.
Over 92% of homes in Gaza have been flattened in Israeli strikes.
Top genocide scholars unanimously agree that Israel’s actions meet the legal threshold of genocide.
There has now been 650 days of active genocide.
As an elected Government Official, you have an obligation under international law to prevent genocide. I call on you to ensure the government:
-Imposes full, comprehensive sanctions on Israel.
-Enforce a complete two-way trade embargo — ending all import and export activity with Israel.
-Immediately end all arms sales and intelligence cooperation.
-Ensure the unimpeded access of aid and humanitarian organisations, and the suspension of GHF’s deadly “aid” centres.
There is no longer time for debate. Failure to act is complicity. Words are not actions. Cease arms trade with Israel. End genocide.
Sincerely,
Your constituent,
Kat Coppock.

--------------------------- The best escape from paralysis is action, even a little one.
The best antidote to helplessness is to help, even just a bit.
If you want to use this letter as a template to send your own emails, you are most welcome. I'll put the websites I used below.
You may know, but there is also a Free Palestine March on August 24th at Victoria Square at 2pm.
On the 31st of August myself and Lizzy Baker are holding Funk Rai$er; Protestival for Palestine, a mini arts festival to rise money for aid and relief in Gaza through Human Appeal Australia. I'll write a separate post about his.
You may feel like one person, but together we are a force.
Keep swimming!
